In today’s lesson, I’ll guide you through creating a 3D paper animal from scratch.

The blank template is for you to design any animal you like—whether it’s a dog, fox, bear, cat, or any other creature. Let your imagination take the lead!

If you prefer a simpler approach, you can follow along using the wolf template I prepared for this tutorial.

Don’t worry if this is your first time working with paper crafts. It might feel a little tricky at first, especially if you’re not used to folding paper or using glue for small pieces.

By the end of this lesson, you’ll feel confident and proud of the creation you’ve made, just like the example shown above.

Materials You’ll Need

For this project, you’ll need:

Paper or cardstock: This is for printing your template. Cardstock will make your model sturdier, but plain paper works just fine if that’s what you have.

Printer: Any printer will do for printing the template.

Scissors: To carefully cut out all the template parts.

Glue: A standard PVA glue stick works perfectly, or even liquid PVA glue can be used.

Step 1: Print the Animal Template

Print the blank animal template first so you can color and design your own unique creature.

If coloring isn’t your strong suit, don’t worry—you can also use a pre-designed template, like the wolf I’ll be using.

Step 2: Cut Out All the Pieces

Carefully cut out all parts along the edges.

You’ll notice some lines on the head and body—these are guides for attaching the tail and ears later. Cut along these lines to prepare them for assembly.

Go slowly and carefully with your scissors. Alternatively, you can poke holes with a pen to help guide the cuts.

Tip: Cut the ears and tail as one piece to make gluing easier later.

Step 3: Assemble the Ears and Tail

Fold the ears and tail along the designated folds and glue them together.

Don’t worry if they aren’t perfectly aligned—trim any excess paper to tidy it up.

Step 4: Fold and Glue the Feet

Using the squares, fold the feet to form box shapes. Once satisfied with the shape, glue the tabs to hold everything securely.

Step 5: Fold and Glue the Body

Repeat the folding and gluing process with the body. Use the tabs to keep the structure in place.

Step 6: Fold and Glue the Head

Fold and glue the head similarly. Apply glue to the tabs to ensure it holds together.

Step 7: Attach the Head to the Body

Glue the bottom of the head and feet to the body carefully—avoid pressing too hard. If you have double-sided tape or liquid glue, you can use that instead.

It’s okay if it doesn’t align perfectly at first—you can always secure it with regular tape temporarily.

Step 8: Attach the Ears and Tail

Insert the ears and tail into the holes you prepared earlier. Use scissors or a craft knife to widen the holes if needed.

Step 9: Fold and Glue the Arms

Fold and glue the arms, then attach them to the body.

Step 10: Enjoy Your 3D Paper Animal!

Once all parts are glued together, your paper animal is complete!

You’ll have a cute, handmade animal to display, and you can even create multiple animals using the blank template to build a whole set.
