After moving into a new home, I began searching local furniture shops and IKEA for pieces that would fit the overall style and design of my space. One item proved especially difficult to find: the right coffee table. Rather than settling for something that didn't match my décor, I decided to create my own.
At first, I considered building a table from wooden pallets. However, since I don't have much experience working with wood, I quickly realized that a pallet project would probably be more complicated than I wanted.
Then I came across a similar coffee table made from an old door. Its unusual appearance and character immediately caught my attention and gave me an idea. I decided to search for a vintage wooden window that could be transformed into the centerpiece of my own table.
Step 1: Find an Old Window
Finding the right window wasn't particularly easy. I wanted a traditional wooden design with glass panels in the center. The transparent glass was especially important because I hoped it would create a visual sense of openness and make my living room appear larger.
Fortunately, I eventually found two old windows from a village house that were both in excellent condition and looked almost exactly like what I had imagined.
I chose the larger of the two, measuring 45 cm × 143 cm × 5 cm, because its proportions were better suited to my available space. I removed the original knob, although leaving it attached would also have been an option. After giving the window a thorough cleaning, it was ready for its new life as a coffee table.
Step 2: Install an Additional Glass Panel
The original window glass was too thin to safely support the weight that would eventually be placed on the tabletop, so an additional piece of reinforced glass was necessary.
I used a 40 cm × 122 cm piece of reinforced glass with a thickness of 5 mm. The new glass panel was positioned securely inside the upper internal frame of the window, creating a stronger and more practical tabletop surface.
Step 3: Attach the Wooden Legs and Lower Shelf
Because the window frame was 5 cm thick, I selected legs measuring 50 cm in height. Once attached to the window, this would bring the completed table to an overall height of approximately 55 cm.
The wooden legs were cut to 50 cm × 7 cm × 4 cm. I secured them to the window frame with L-shaped metal brackets and screws to create a stable base.
For additional storage and visual interest, I also added a wooden lower shelf measuring 42 cm × 115 cm × 2 cm. The shelf was positioned approximately 13 cm above the bottom edge of the legs, providing a convenient surface for books, magazines, baskets, or decorative items.
Step 4: Paint the Table
The final stage was finishing the table with paint. I chose white because it matched the original color of the vintage window and complemented the overall look I wanted for the finished piece.
Once painted, the old window was transformed into a distinctive coffee table that combined vintage character with a practical modern function.

How to Draw Whales
I’ve spent countless hours on the water, from cold northern seas to warm tropical bays. My goal has always been the same: to draw whales. Not the simplified cartoon versions you see in children’s books, but real whales—the massive bodies, the raw strength, the scars that record their lives. For a long time, my drawings felt lifeless and flat. I eventually realized I wasn’t just drawing an outline; I was trying to represent a living creature shaped by the physics of the ocean itself.
